The City of Huntsville mourns the loss of Dr. James “Jimmy” Wall, a 24-year member of the City Council and well-known community leader. Huntsville City Council approved plans to proceed with a $7.9 million construction contract with Lambert Contracting to complete the final phase of Apollo Park at MidCity District. When finished in late 2024, the 20-acre park will feel similar to downtown’s Big Spring Park. Funding to begin Phase 2 of Huntsville’s residential street repaving plan for this fiscal year has been approved by City Council. Wiregrass Construction Company won the $5.1 million contract to improve 51 neighborhood streets within the next 10 months. Mayor Tommy Battle’s 2022-2023 budget includes about $19.5 million for street improvements – the most money ever allocated for residential resurfacing.
