CALEA Conference
Published on April 25, 2019
The Huntsville Police Department has partnered with the Madison County Sheriff’s Department, the Madison Police Department, and the Huntsville/Madison County Convention and Visitors Bureau to host the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) Conference next week.
Over 600 Law Enforcement officials will be attending the Huntsville CALEA Conference from all over the United States, Mexico, Canada and Barbados. The attendees will spend the week in Huntsville attending classes, participating in accreditation hearings and exploring our community.
CALEA is a credentialing authority whose primary mission is to accredit law enforcement agencies, training academies, communications centers and campus public safety agencies. Only five percent of the agencies in the United States meet CALEA’s high standards for accreditation, and their status is reviewed on a regular basis.
The Huntsville Police Department is proud to have been accredited since 1996, the first police department in Alabama to earn that designation. This past July, the Madison County Sheriff’s Department received its accreditation and the City of Madison will be seeking accreditation at this conference. To have the three largest law enforcement agencies in Madison County accredited demonstrates the commitment to our community in providing the highest quality of services.
