Expect traffic delays: Alabama A&M University homecoming

The Huntsville Police Department is assisting Alabama A&M University Police with traffic control for the University’s homecoming parade and football game on Saturday, Oct. 1. Drivers should expect delays or avoid North Memorial Parkway, Winchester Road and Meridian Street near the University’s campus. The Huntsville Police Department is assisting the University of Alabama in Huntsville Police Department with traffic control for the 2022 UAH Homecoming 5K run on Sunday, Oct. 2. The race will begin at 8 a.m. on John Wright Drive and will end on Holmes Ave at Spragins Street. This safe, fun and family-friendly event will be held from 5 – 7 p.m. at the Jaycee Building at John Hunt Park located at 2180 Airport Road. The Huntsville Police Department is assisting with road closures in downtown Huntsville near the Von Braun Center on Friday, Sept. 30. Monroe Street between Clinton and Williams Avenues will be closed to north and southbound traffic from 5 – 8 p.m. to accommodate heavy pedestrian traffic for multiple events at the VBC. The Huntsville Police Department (HPD) has charged 59-year-old Shirley Ann Logan with murder following a domestic-related shooting on Sunday, Sept. 25. Officers responded to the 1500 block of Sparkman Drive shortly before 5:40 p.m. and found 45-year-old Anthony Wilson deceased. Investigators learned Logan and Wilson had an ongoing relationship and believe the shooting stemmed from a verbal altercation. Logan was booked in the Madison County Jail. The Huntsville Police Department is assisting with traffic control and road closures for the 2022 Crush Wine and Food Festival on Saturday, Sept. 24. The northbound lanes of Church Street will be closed at 11 a.m. and the southbound lanes will remain open for traffic.
